6. Favourite antagonist
The thing about Ruby is that when I look at her, 1.0 or 2.0, I want to strangle her, so I figure that must make her, on some level, the best antagonist. Every incarnation of Ruby is the same character to me, despite the differences in how the actors played them. Ruby’s goals in season three were far different than in season four. She wiggled her way in, whispering encouragement to Sam about becoming more like ‘Dean’.
Ruby never gave up, even when each boy threatened to kill her, she couldn’t give up. She waited for her moment, knowing that at some point she would have to either get Sam on her side, or die trying. Once season four comes along she’s already wormed her way into Sam’s life, his everyday, his routine, and his being. He’s become dependent on her, attached, and he can’t differentiate the difference between demon and human when it came to her.
When Dean came back she was more encouraging, more positive, told Sam more often he was doing what was needed, that he was strong and brave, and turning all his curses into gifts. While Dean’s yelling that she’s manipulating him, telling him he’s an idiot for trusting her, there Ruby is with open arms and a soothing voice, calming Sam, and taking him by the hand.
Her plan was foolproof, no other demon knew what her choices were leading up to. She was willing to die for her cause, her religion if you will, and nothing was going to stand in her way, least of all two human boys. I believe on some deep twisted level she loved Sam, or at least wanted him, she knew he had a power in him that he could use if he wanted, and she wanted to be by his side when he chose to utilize it.
All in all Ruby was a perfect villain, so perfect that I know so many people thought she was the example of a good demon, going against the story, and all the rules. The fact that she was so deeply clever and horribly manipulative to have fooled almost everyone, says a lot. Her character makes me feel anger like very few other characters and it’s part of what makes her flawless. I hate Ruby for twisting Sam, for taking advantage of his gentle nature and breaking his and Dean’s bond as much as she possibly could. But I have to admit; she was right, she was awesome.
I do have a bias for Ruby 1.0 I must admit. I’m not going to hate on 2.0 just because of that but I can’t say that I...
Not enough Ruby appreciation in this fandom. Especially 2.0. All this. All the love (although I kinda hated her for not...
